Let’s face it, we are what people generally as call over the hill. At least that’s what the majority of 50+ year olds believe. You start winding down, start consolidating and start preparing for the ‘golden’ retirement.

While this was a fact for the previous generation from ours, it is now pushed further by perhaps another decade or so.

Then what is the expectation from us? Is 50 the new 30? What does that even mean? While there’s an iota of sense in that, I think it more of a marketing jargon. At 50+, your body will and can betray you in new and unexpected ways – the aches, the energy levels, stamina, muscle mass, metabolism, midnight bathroom trips, stress, kids higher education, their marriage, BP, diabetes and what not – all start pointing in the wrong direction.

This is a critical decade of our lives, a crossroads of sorts. You can either sink or swim depending on how you deal with it.

The good news is, even if you start now, there’s a very healthy chance to get back the vigor and vitality of the youth you once had to take on whatever life is throwing at you. And 50+ year olds all over the world are redefining what that feels and looks like.

Being 50+ today does not carry the limitations and stereotypes it once did. Many are living the energetic and fulfilling lives often comparable to how people lived at age 30 in earlier generations. However, for this blog, well let’s make it 25@50 life.

It’s not about we start acting like a 25 year old but we create the possibilities that once we thought possible when we were 25 at 50+, but it’s the maturity, wisdom and experience we bring, that make this 50s journey and beyond all the more enjoyable.

50 year olds today are:

  • pursuing new careers
  • seeking new adventures
  • leading active and energetic lifestyles

After years of following routines, building careers, families, and putting others first, it’s our turn to check in on ourselves. Consider this blog as notes from one 50+ year old to another: brutal, frank, say it for what it is, providing the vision of your future self.

I’ve seen most of the advice on health, grooming, and fitness are for younger people with ripped bodies, pumped up muscles and what have you – that’s not the goal!

Goal is to look good, feel good, and become fit for what suits best to you as an individual, your better self and what shapes your situation.
